The sculptural installation The Garden in the main corridor on the ground floor of the new Tergooi MC was created through a special project in collaboration with the residents of Hilversum. Artists Dewi Vingerling and Edo Verhoeff visited several community centres and asked participants to draw a memory. The response was overwhelming: everyone took part. In addition to the drawings, the personal stories behind these memories were also collected.

Strikingly, one theme kept recurring: for most participants, their memory was deeply connected to the feeling of home. This multitude of personal experiences formed the inspiration for the design of the installation.

The sculptures radiate warmth and softness, enhanced by the use of textiles. Textiles play a familiar role in daily life and immediately evoke recognition and emotion. The soft, inviting shapes make the work accessible to all ages.

The purpose of the artwork goes beyond decoration: it invites visitors to pause, look, and think of a place where they feel at home. In this way, the artists hope to ease the tension of a hospital visit and offer a moment of peace and comfort. The sculptures serve as tangible reminders of the power of home, nourished by stories and creativity from the Hilversum community.
